Grashunda Enise Banks was born on April 19, 1978 as the second daughter of Grady Edward & Olivia Hightower Banks. She joined older sister, Graquetta (Quet). The two sisters were soon joined by sister Gratasha (Tasha) and brother Jarvis. Shunda was reared in a Christian home being instilled with Christian principals. She was a quiet and timid child who was very easy to cry. She was very sensitive and her feelings were easily hurt. Shunda was educated in the Lamar County school system, attending Barnesville Primary School, Lamar County Middle School and Lamar County Comprehensive High School. She acquired a love for education and it was her desire to be a teacher. With this goal in mind, Shunda matriculated at Gordon College in Barnesville, Georgia. She received her associates degree and continued her education at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. It was there that she was employed at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. She attended her interview to enter the Georgia State education program one week before her demise. We all know in our hearts that she was accepted.
Shunda had an extremely big heart and held family, friends, and the four loves of her life: her fiance, Jonathan and her godchildren, Iendi, Azjah and Chyna especially close to her heart.
Shunda was very active in her church, Sand Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Barnesville, GA. She was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir, the board of Evangelism and the Christian Youth Fellowship. Shunda was also an associate member of West Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Barnesville, GA. She was a member of the Youth Choir and the Gospel Choir.
Beacause of what she means to us, we have decided to establish a foundation to continue her legacy of giving to the community by way of scholarships and service.
